Joel Brenden (b.1980) is a an artist, designer, and educator currently based in Buffalo. His works explore themes of ecology and built environments, memory, and identity. His work has been exhibited at Hallwalls, CEPA, Western New York Book Arts Center, The Burchfield-Penney, and most recently at Tri-Mania 2025 (BAS). He holds an MFA in Visual Studies from the University at Buffalo, and a BFA in Drawing at Central Washington University. Brenden is faculty in the Department of Art University at Buffalo SUNY. He is also the founder and publisher of LINOLEUM (2013), a small press for visual and language arts, and co-founder of Gatheringspace (2024), a community-oriented studio focused on education and resources in traditional and emerging media arts and performance.
